Online Counselling

Individual Online Counselling

I have been working with online counselling in one way or another since 2017, and since the pandemic across 2020-2021, it has become a permanent tool in the therapy space.  The counselling process is the same as In Person Counselling so far as it’s a tailored collaboration between the counsellor and the client to suit the client’s needs.  The beauty of online counselling though is that if you are not able or choose not to leave your home or office, then you are able to enjoy the benefits of one to one counselling in the privacy of that space.  Some clients also choose to do a combination of Individual In Person and Online Counselling.  Online counselling also means that people have a broader choice of professionals to choose from across the country, you are not limited to choosing a counsellor that is within the travelling space of where you live or work.  Being able to work with a counsellor online can be a great idea if you….

  • find it difficult to leave home for various reasons.  Eg, parent, injury, ill health
  • are in hospital, a care facility such as respite
  • find it difficult to leave your place of work
  • don’t have the time to schedule travel into your busy day or evening
  • are travelling interstate or internationally but would still like to continue with your counselling
  • are living in another part of Australia that isn’t near Sydney or the Central Coast of NSW

How It Works

  • You simply need to contact me to schedule an appointment
  • I will send you the intake paperwork for completion and payment details
  • You will need a device such as a computer, tablet or phone with a steady internet connection and major browser such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Microsoft Edge.
  • I will send you a link and you simply need to click on it when it’s time for your session and it will connect.

Please reach out to me today if you would like to explore Online Counselling as an option.

Group Online Counselling

Group Online Counselling offers many of the same benefits of In Person Group Counselling but it also means that you are able to access group counselling sessions from the comfort of your own home, office or wherever else you may be.  It is a different experience to In Person work but it certainly still allows a wonderful space to experience connection, validation, support and growth with other people who share similar issues and concerns.  I offer Online Group Counselling sessions as a closed group throughout set periods of time throughout the year.  A closed group means that you will be part of a small group (maximum 6 people) and the set period of time can be anything from 4-12 weeks, depending on the topic of the group.  This can be a great option if you…

  • would like the benefits of connection with others as well as your counsellor
  • would like a counselling alternative at a lesser cost
  • would like to do some work in a particular are of concern for you for a set period of time within a closed group

How It Works:

  • You simply need to contact me or subscribe to my email list to know when the next Online Group Counselling sessions will be running and what the topic is.
  • You will need to apply to participate in some groups as they are closed groups and limited to a set number of participants for a set number of weeks.  It’s also important that we assess if the group running is an appropriate group for your needs.

Please contact me if you would like to know when the next Group Online Counselling sessions will be held.

Limits and Solutions

Limits and Challenges with Online Counselling (Individual and Group):

  • Device, internet and/or network failure or interruption
  • No guarantee of total confidentiality due to your location or internet security
  • A higher level of care may be required due to your circumstances which could mean that online counselling may not be enough on it’s own, therefore there may be the need for In Person care to be integrated, and possibly the additional need for other practitioners such as your GP, psychiatrist, psychologist and/or social worker.

Some Measures Taken to Ensure the Highest Level of Care (Individual and Group):

  • If my platform for Telehealth fails, we will set another agreed upon encrypted method of continuing the session
  • Use of encrypted sites and communication as well as transmitting from a private, locked room
  • Provision of additional or more appropriate referrals for your care

Your care and confidentiality are of my utmost concern - please reach out and contact me to discuss your questions and concerns.

So What Actually is Professional Counselling?

I think a good place for us to start is by taking a brief look at what professional counselling is, what is a professional counsellor in Australia, and what kinds of issues professional counselling can help with.
