About  my Practice

Welcome

I’m so glad you’re here! It can be really difficult to take that first step of contacting a counsellor, and it’s a hundred percent natural to want to know at least a little about this person with whom you are intending to entrust your experiences, thoughts and feelings with.

I haven’t always practised as a professional counsellor - my first passions were theatre and photography, and I was fortunate enough to be able to study and work within both fields for a number of years.  However, four children later and many serious life losses and challenges, have led me to a deep need to learn why we think, behave, and do the things that we do.  I had always been interested in the human mind and actually began a psych degree in my late twenties, but the inspiration for changing career path from creative to counsellor developed from the time that I spent with my counsellor,  when I was navigating one of the largest crisis seasons of my life.

In terms of my work as a professional counsellor, I have worked as a counsellor in a not for profit organisation that works with women of all ages navigating unplanned pregnancy; as a peer support counsellor for a telehealth peer support organisation; and as a counsellor for an organisation specialising in hoarding and squalor disorders

I also have loved working within the counselling schools of undergraduate and postgraduate education as a co-lecturer, tutor, supervisor, student support coach and student liaison over the past few years. I am passionate about helping students to work towards achieving their goals - because it’s seriously hard work regardless of what age you are - whether it’s your first time studying at 18 or 80, or you’re returning to study after a long break!

I would describe myself as an extroverted introvert who loves being anywhere near the water. I love being with my children, and hanging out with my family and friends over a coffee or a long lunch! I love books, theatre, art, and music - and I listen to a lot of podcasts.

MY INTENTION

It takes tremendous courage to commit to counselling and I appreciate that - it’s not easy work but it can be rewarding work.  Each person’s experience is unique.  We all deserve the space to be able to connect with another human who is willing to meet us where we are at with compassion and without judgement.  It is my intention to hold that space for my clients so that they are able to tell their stories without fear, explore themselves (past, present and future), and provide the tools and strategies to empower them to be able to make choices that are aligned with their values, integrity and truth.

I use a trauma-informed and client-centred approach which integrates therapeutic modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); and Solutions Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) to address areas such as: Anxiety, Depression, Grief & Loss, Hoarding, Life Transitions, Moral Injury & Failure, Trauma, Undergrad and Postgrad Student Support, and Unplanned Pregnancy.
